Artists

Josie is an artist based in Glasgow. Her work spans drawing, publications, installation, performance and collaborative projects. She has exhibited and/or performed at Kunstinstituut Melly (Rotterdam, NL), Centre Cívic Can Felipa (Barcelona, ES), Stichting Perdu (Amsterdam, NL), Twenty One, venue of Focal Point Gallery (Southend-on-Sea, UK), DE PLAYER (Rotterdam), LaVallée, (Brussels, BE), Torpedo theater (Amsterdam, NL) and Joey Ramone Gallery (Rotterdam, NL). Audio adaptations of two performances were released as a 7-inch vinyl by Brussels-based label Futura Resistenza in 2022. Her MFA at the Piet Zwart Institute (2018–20) was funded by the Leverhulme Trust.

Since 2019 she has been collaborating with Daphne Simons on the project ‘Plasma Spring,’ currently happening remotely between Scotland and New Zealand. Their work as a duo stems from a quick-fire script-writing process in which they fictionalise figures from art history and popular media, a form of surreal homage that is variously absurd, sincere, irreverent and camp. Within this fictional framework their work spans publications, multimedia installations and colour pencil drawings by Josie. Recently they have exhibited as a duo at Stichting SIGN (Gröningen, NL), Het Archief (Rotterdam, NL), Alta Art Space (Malmö, SE), and The Audio Foundation (Auckland, NZ); shown video work online for WET Film, and presented a show on Radio Sloppy (Bruges, BE). They have released four comic books – the most recent published by Glom Press in 2022 – which are currently available at Good Press, PrintRoom Rotterdam and Glom Press.
