Michella Perera is an Irish artist practicing in Glasgow. She was born in Sri Lanka. She completed her BA in Limerick, Ireland in 2014. She holds an MFA (2017) from the Glasgow School of Art.
Perera‘s work explores a tangible understanding of self hood. The intricacies of certain relationships the artist has, pertaining especially to her country of birth, are explored. A string of activities are undertaken in a ritual test of the terms of Perera’s relationship to various aspects of her subjective self. Perera is interested in points where meaning structures and subjectivities become malleable and acts as a host for material understanding, personal sensations, images and memories, while also catalyzing new ones. In attempting to understand these relationships, a different system of meaning/understanding is employed, a physical one.
